It’s hard to feel chipper at the moment when the dreaded Coronavirus lingers on. The 6 person rule has really got me down.
.
Instead of focussing on that (which isn’t something we can change) I am concentrating on the good stuff. And today was full of good stuff. Apart from Jude dressing like a giraffe/bear combo and it being unseasonably warm and sunny, I had a fab day work wise.
.
I had a consultation this afternoon which isn’t unusual for a Monday. But this one came from a previous client who herself had been recommended to us by a previous client! It really hit me that when you’re running your own business, it’s hard to get much better than that. There’s nothing more complimentary than someone telling someone else that they ‘simply have to get these girls in!’ And for it to happen twice in the chain - it put a skip in my step and was a lovely Covidistraction.
.
I just made that word up. Do you think it’ll catch on?
.
No.
.
Stick to decluttering. Gotcha.

Hey hey it’s Friyay!
.
We are feeling full of the Friday spirit today: finished a fab week at a lovely client’s house where she told us that what we had done was ‘life changing’.... What we do so much more than just tidying, it’s about helping people live the best way they can in their homes 💕
.
She must have been pleased as I have just received a call from one of her friends who also wants to hire us after having a recommendation from this weeks client. There are a few things I can think of that feel better than word-of-mouth recommendation for a job well done ☺️
.
I can’t tell you how fab it is that we are so busy after all those months of lockdown. We have lots of exciting projects coming up which we’ll share with you.
.

Keep your eyes on Life/Edit’s stories on FB and Insta to see what we are up to 👀
.
For now we hope you have a brilliant weekend

Children’s artwork 🖼
.
Happy Sunday everyone! Hope you’ve had a fab weekend. I just finished this gallery in our kitchen and thought I’d share it with you.
.
Our eldest boy is getting really into drawing and he’s loving this for his and his brothers’ artwork. It’s so simple: take the glass out of picture frames, pull out the metal tabs and glue them on to the wall.
.
The reason I love it is that not only does it look more stylish and tidier than bluetak-ing them on to the fridge, but also children get real pleasure from deciding which pictures can go in their very own art gallery.

Just before lockdown we were working on our biggest project to date: a huge house makeover and decluttering and organising job. It was a brilliant job for a gorgeous, fun family. However just as we were nearing the end of the job,
Coronavirus hit and we had to down tools and close our business just a couple of days before we had finished. Gutted.
.
One of the worst things was that we didn’t get to take many photos. We used amazing colour and daring design and we are desperate to show you all! This is a nice #shelfie we did in the kitchen. There’s plenty more like this to show you....
.
Today we are back to this client. We are going to put the final touches to what we started and do a post-COVID-19 declutter too.
.
We cannot WAIT to get back and we are so excited about sharing photos with you 💓

Have I mentioned we are going back to work tomorrow? 🤣
.
We have a fab first week planned: organising an entrance hall and big cupboard in a busy family house, then on Wednesday and Thursday we are back to the last place we worked before lockdown. Both we and our clients have been messaging to say how excited we are that after all this time we are getting back to what we love. Victoria in particular is itching to get back to the cupboards we weren’t quite able to finish as we had to stop work due to the lockdown. She’s been dreaming about them for the last 5 months 😆
.
Both V and I feel so lucky to do what we love... and to have clients who are simply the best.
.
BRING IT ON!

COVID-19 procedures
.
Well it’s 4 days until we start work again (eeeeeeep!) and we are raring to go. Victoria has been super busy putting together our COVID-19 procedures and updating our kit to include visors, sanitiser, and these fabulous masks. I love them!
.
So great to work alongside someone who is brilliant at the detail. Because of Victoria we can set off on Tuesday knowing that our clients are as informed as possible and we have taken every step we can to keep us and our clients safe x

The countdown is ON!
.
Victoria and are I back to work next Tuesday 1st September and we cannot WAIT! We have been busy with consultations and we are delighted to be booked right up until the end of October. We are desperate to get back to what we love best. We have missed you all!
.
We are back next week where we left off: at a client’s for whom we did an epic interiors and decluttering project. We were last there JUST before lockdown and we are giddy as can be that we are at last going to get back to finish the job! Cannot WAIT to share the pics with you 💕

How often do we use the word ‘should’ to self-criticise? I was at a new client consult last week and the client looked around her kitchen shaking her head saying ‘I SHOULD be able to do this myself. Certainly my husband thinks so...’
Woah woah WOAH! I stopped her right there. ‘Should’ means that we are not measuring up in some way, that what we are doing is not good enough. The unspoken follow-up to ‘ I should’ is ‘but I’m not.’ ‘Should’ is not used to tell yourself that you are doing a good job.
.
This woman is a mum, has a job, has a house to manage and has just come out of a global pandemic. The fact she was still standing was impressive enough, there was no need for her to feel guilt of any kind.
.
When did it become the norm that we were expected to excel at work, parenthood, socialising, family life AND have the perfect home yet feel guilty for looking for help? Looking after your home used to be a full-time job, but now we are supposed to fit it in alongside everything else. And often if we are honest, it’s STILL the woman in the house who bears the brunt of it.
.
‘Shoulding all over yourself’ only breeds shame and feels awful, it also actually keeps you from making positive changes. Instead, let’s try and practice some self-kindness.
.
As I said to my client ‘let’s rephrase that. Let’s try ‘I have a busy life and I find organising my home challenging. so I have chosen to ask for help.’
.
Of course you don’t have to be quite as prescriptive as that 😆 but she totally got my point and we had a good chat about how we ‘should’ waaaay too much.
.
So let’s celebrate if we choose to seek help. Lets applaud our resourcefulness. Let’s give ourselves a pat on the back for reaching out. For some of us, organising comes easily: so it’s also hugely efficient to get someone like Victoria and me to help you: that’s what we’re here for.
.
So come on, let’s banish the ‘shoulding.’ 🥰

“I absolutely loved working with Zoë.  She helped me to organise my kitchen/playroom and children’s bedrooms.  I hated the mess of kids’ toys and endless clutter, and she was able to help me not only find a better way to organise everything, but also helped me to really see what I could finally let go of.

There was never any judgement or pressure, just support and objective suggestions.  We had a real laugh during the process, but she kept me focussed and took away the daunting feeling out of what had seemed insurmountable for so long.

I would wholeheartedly recommend her services; she is incredibly professional, yet still so friendly, funny and easy to work with.  With such an incredible eye for detail and design, the end results are amazing!”

I kept telling myself I could tidy up and declutter by myself! Surely I didn’t need help?! Fortunately, I did ask Zoë to come and do a few hours to help me clear out some of the piles that just never seemed to get tackled. Under the stairs in particular had begun to get to the stage where I didn’t even know what was in there.

Zoë arrived with bin bags, labels and an air of calm authority. She was methodical and kept me from getting distracted by reading through old diaries and looking at every card stashed in old boxes which I was bound to do! She was however sympathetic, never telling me what to throw away but keeping me focussed on our ‘keep’ ‘throw’ ‘charity’ and ‘not sure’ piles.

I couldn’t believe how quickly we managed to sort through everything, clean the space and reorganise what I was keeping. A job that would have seemed daunting and difficult and taken me hours and hours was done quickly and easily. Thank you, Zoë!
